Belagavi, March 24: Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan has clarified that there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders or fuel in the district and urged the public not to panic or believe in rumours.
Addressing a press conference at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, he stated that there is adequate availability of petrol and diesel across Belagavi city and district. Even if stock runs out at any fuel station, replenishment will be ensured within five hours.
He further informed that discussions have already been held with fuel supply companies and petrol pump owners, and there is no shortage reported anywhere. The current confusion, he said, is due to panic buying and unnecessary stockpiling by the public.
Strict instructions have been issued to petrol pumps not to sell fuel in bottles or cans. He warned that spreading false information on social media will lead to legal action.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase also stated that sale of fuel in bottles or cans is strictly prohibited. Strong measures will be taken to prevent illegal storage and sale of fuel.
He appealed to the public to remain calm and not fall prey to rumours. In case of any illegal activity or disturbances, citizens are advised to immediately contact the police by dialing 112.
Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Mallikarjun and Hotel Owners Association President Ajay Pai were also present at the press conference.
