In a strong indictment of quick-commerce platforms, Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha demanded an immediate ban on \u201c10-minute delivery\u201d services in the Rajya Sabha, labelling them unsafe and exploitative for the gig workforce powering the industry. Chadha warned that the relentless pursuit of instant delivery is pushing riders to the brink, compromising both their safety and public security.<\/p>\n

Chadha emphasized that delivery personnel are \u201cnot robots\u201d and are being forced to overspeed and take dangerous risks to meet impractical deadlines. He detailed a grim reality where workers endure 12\u201314 hour shifts in extreme weather, often lacking safety gear, insurance, or job security. “A delay of even a few minutes can lead to poor ratings or loss of earnings, putting additional pressure on them,” he stated, arguing that while companies grow into billion-dollar giants, their workers face perilous conditions.<\/p>\n

Echoing these concerns, rights activist Payel Sengupta highlighted the direct correlation between corporate delivery promises and road safety hazards. “The pressure from companies promising on-time delivery directly contributes to a significant number of road accidents by pushing delivery agents to engage in reckless and hazardous driving behaviours,” Sengupta said. She explained that to avoid penalties, riders often speed, ignore traffic signals, and drive distractedly, creating a high-stress environment where safety is sidelined.<\/p>\n
