IISc Celebrates Academic Excellence at 2025 Convocation<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Bengaluru, July 11, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) held its annual convocation today at the JN Tata Auditorium, honoring students who completed their degrees in the 2024-25 academic year. Renowned mathematician Prof. Manjul Bhargava from Princeton University graced the event as Chief Guest, while Senapathy ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan, Chair of IISc\u2019s Council, attended as the Guest of Honour.<\/p>\n

A total of\u00a01,487 PhD and Master\u2019s students<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0106 undergraduate students<\/strong>\u00a0received their degrees, with\u00a084 exceptional scholars<\/strong>\u00a0awarded medals for academic excellence.<\/p>\n

A Century of Excellence and Growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In his address,\u00a0Senapathy ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan<\/strong>\u00a0reflected on IISc\u2019s remarkable journey since its inception. He paid tribute to\u00a0Jamshedji Tata<\/strong>, whose vision and generosity\u2014donating a third of his wealth\u2014laid the foundation for what is now a globally recognized institution.<\/p>\n

“From its humble beginnings with just 30 members and two courses, IISc has grown into a powerhouse of education and research, now home to 6,000 students and staff offering around 800 courses,”<\/em>\u00a0Gopalakrishnan said. He highlighted the institute\u2019s consistent ranking as\u00a0India\u2019s No. 1<\/strong>\u00a0in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and its expansion into\u00a0advanced integrated degree programs<\/strong>, including skill development and industry-oriented courses.<\/p>\n

He also announced the upcoming launch of a\u00a0new Medical School<\/strong>, which will introduce master\u2019s and doctoral programs starting next year.<\/p>\n

Aim for Greatness, Not Just Excellence: Bhargava\u2019s Inspiring Message<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Prof. Manjul Bhargava<\/strong>, celebrated mathematician and Fields Medalist, commended the graduating students for their achievements at one of India\u2019s most prestigious institutions.<\/p>\n

“With the world-class education, critical thinking skills, and technical knowledge you\u2019ve gained here, you have the power to excel in any field you choose,”<\/em>\u00a0he told the graduates.<\/p>\n

Urging them to push boundaries, Bhargava said,\u00a0“Don\u2019t settle for excellence\u2014strive for greatness. Be innovative, be creative, and go beyond what is expected. Your education has equipped you not just to follow but to lead and redefine the future.”<\/em><\/p>\n
