Veteran Congress leader Y. Sayeed Ahmed voices concern over proposed changes to Waqf governance, calls for unity and justice<\/em><\/p>\n

Bengaluru, India<\/strong> \u2014 In a sharp critique of the BJP-led central government, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Vice President Y. Sayeed Ahmed has condemned the Waqf Amendment Act, calling it \u201can attack\u201d on minority institutions and a threat to the autonomy of community-driven service bodies.<\/p>\n

With over four decades of service to the Congress Party and the people of Karnataka, Ahmed expressed deep concern about the implications of the Act. He emphasized the transformative role Waqf institutions have played in the lives of the underprivileged, particularly within the Muslim community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have walked through Waqf-funded schools, orphanages, hospitals, and shelters\u2014places that have uplifted countless lives,\u201d Ahmed said. \u201cWaqf has been a lifeline for orphans, widows, and students with dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

The proposed amendments, he argued, are not aimed at reform but at control. He questioned the government\u2019s selective focus on Muslim institutions while leaving other religious bodies untouched. \u201cIf the core purpose is better governance, then why not bring similar changes to temple boards, church trusts, and other religious bodies?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

Ahmed welcomed the recent Supreme Court decision to stay the implementation of the Act, applauding the judiciary\u2019s intervention and its critical observations about the bill’s fairness.<\/p>\n

Calling for a peaceful and united response from the community, he invoked the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. \u201cLet us respond with unity, peace, and resolve. We will fight this injustice, but we will do so with dignity,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Reaffirming his commitment to defending the rights of the community, Ahmed concluded with a resolute message: \u201cWaqf belongs to the people. And I will not rest until it is protected.<\/p>\n
