Bengaluru:<\/strong>\u00a0In a shocking display of indifference towards its citizens, the Karnataka government has unleashed yet another financial assault on Bengaluru\u2019s residents, imposing a merciless water tariff hike effective April 10. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), acting as a willing pawn of an apathetic administration, has callously raised prices by\u00a00.15 to 1 paisa per litre<\/strong>, further squeezing a population already buckling under relentless inflation.<\/p>\n

This draconian move\u2014disguised as a necessity for “infrastructure and operational costs”\u2014has sparked fury among working-class families, who are now forced to choose between drinking water and other essentials. With food, gas, and electricity prices already skyrocketing, this\u00a0government-sanctioned exploitation<\/strong> has pushed public anger to a boiling point.<\/p>\n

“Water is nature\u2019s blessing, not a government\u2019s commodity. No state or central authority has the right to put a price on what God has given freely, like air and water<\/strong>. Denying water to those who cannot pay is a crime against humanity,” says Dorothy D’souza<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Water is not a luxury\u2014it\u2019s a basic right!”<\/em>\u00a0shouted Shobha, a homemaker from Rajajinagar, her voice trembling with rage.\u00a0“While politicians live in luxury, they\u2019re making us pay more for the water we need to survive. This government has no conscience.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Babu, an auto-rickshaw driver from Pottery Town, echoed the despair of thousands:\u00a0“Every month, they find new ways to rob us. First fuel, then food, now water? How much more blood do they want from us?”<\/em><\/p>\n

Prabhakar, a schoolteacher in SK Garden, condemned the move as\u00a0“economic cruelty”<\/strong>:\u00a0“Middle-class families are barely surviving. Instead of relief, this government stabs us in the back. Shame on them!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Ayesha, a Shivajinagar resident, lashed out:\u00a0“They don\u2019t care if we live or die. We\u2019re being taxed to death while they waste public money on vanity projects. This is not governance\u2014this is tyranny.”<\/em><\/p>\n

BWSSB\u2019s Sham Justification Exposed<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Under the revised structure, households will now be charged\u00a00.30 paisa per litre<\/strong>\u00a0for basic usage, with higher slabs reaching\u00a01 paisa per litre<\/strong>. Meanwhile, bulk water supply costs have surged by\u00a0up to 1.90 paisa per litre<\/strong>, and commercial users\u2014including small businesses\u2014face a\u00a0125% increase<\/strong>, a death knell for struggling entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

BWSSB Chairman Raghavendra B.G. had the audacity to claim the hike was\u00a0“modest”<\/em>, citing an 11-year freeze on tariffs. But his hollow assurances ring false\u2014how can a government that splurges on wasteful projects justify bleeding dry its own people?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ram Prasad Manesar, BWSSB President, added insult to injury by stating the hike was\u00a0“carefully implemented to avoid public stress.”<\/em>\u00a0What grotesque irony!<\/strong>\u00a0When will this administration realize that\u00a0empty words don\u2019t fill empty stomachs\u2014or thirsty mouths?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Public Fury Grows \u2013 Will the Govt Listen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As Bengaluru\u2019s residents reel under this latest\u00a0economic assault<\/strong>, one thing is clear:\u00a0this government has lost all moral authority.<\/strong>\u00a0Instead of squeezing every last rupee from its citizens, why isn\u2019t it cracking down on water mafias, fixing leakages, or recovering\u00a0\u20b9200 crore in pending dues from defaulters?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The people demand answers. The people demand justice.\u00a0Will this heartless regime listen, or will it continue to punish the poor for its own failures?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The streets are watching. The voters are remembering.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
